The new head office of Univé-VGZ-IZA-Trias is located in an office complex at the bus station in the new station area of Arnhem. A total of 765 non-personal, activity-related workplaces have been realised on 10,600 m² of floor space. The introduction of the ‘new way of working’ was just as important for the development of the interior concept as were the quality of the hospitable and informal meeting area and the concept of a presentable environment for visitors from outside.
Within a complex floor plan situation, three collective meeting areas have been organised across three floors on relatively central locations in the building, such as a ‘job café’, a conference centre, project studios and a restaurant with lunch rooms for consultation. The project is a prime example of the increasing number of opportunities open to us to optimise sustainability aspects in interior projects. For example, the design opts for bamboo parquet and the soft floor covering is fully cradle-to-cradle. Direct contact with the executing parties has made it possible to arrive at appropriate solutions under extreme time pressure and an overlap of the design and execution phases.
In this project, the look and feel of the interior fulfils a special function: the interior needs to support the meaning of the renewed organisation without becoming a manifesto of the house style or an advertising message. The meaning is care-free, innocent, optimistic, natural, colourful… all these aspects are reflected in the interior in a fun-filled, occasionally playful manner.
