Dr. Aletta Jacobs College, Hoogezand Sappemeer (NL)
Dirk Jan Postel
The Dr. Aletta Jacobs College features a new, modern education concept that involves various modes of learning in a variety of group sizes and spaces. Instead of rows of classrooms, the design offers free floor plans with transparent, regular facades and a variety of functions, both open and confined. Separate school departments are all linked by the central entrance hall. From there, large staircases lead you deeper into the building. The rich variety in programme is reflected in the rainbow of colours on the facade.
The school's interior features contributions by four artists. These are large furniture objects by Guido Marsille, colour-coded entrances of the various departments by Jan Melis, bold signage designed by Johannes Niemeijer and a modern lustre in the entrance hall by Vincent de Rijk.
